totally agree on that track "the lab/old times". completely delightful and not on the boot from what i remember so completely brand spanking new. i'm also rather ashamed to like "gremlins...mega madness" but there you have it.
Well, I googled FSM GREMLINS 2 CD this morning to see some buzz for the release, and one of the Google results take you right to FFshrine where they are apparently sharing this through "private links".
Not just FSM but Intrada, LaLa, Varese... I thought they'd given this up.
Stuff like this is probably one more reason Lukas is glad he's getting out of the monthly CD business. He's been notified.
So my CD is on the way and I can't wait to receive it, but I've had a long standing question about this score (which is perhaps answered in the liner notes). What is it that makes the "cat getting its tail stepped on" sound in this score? Is that some kind of synth?

Yes, it is a synth, Goldsmith was a big proponent of creating odd sounds electronically that could not be produced acoustically.

Those sounds used to creep me out, when I saw the movie as a kid. Some complain about Goldsmith's use of the synthesizer sometimes, but on Gremlins he was spot on in my opinion.
Having today off I was trying to figure out what to listen to while getting caught up some computer work. The mailman decided to deliver a package from SAE. Gremlins were released into my house!! I have to say I thought when EXPLORERS was released a few months ago, I thought that was the best release of an old score in the past 10 years. Well, after listening to GREMLINS (both CDs) over and over (actually on my 6th time now), I have decided that GREMLINS is the best release of an old score in the past 27 years!!!! I only had one holy grail, well, I finally have it! The unreleased cues are amazing! I have watched GREMLINS countless times since it was released in the theaters. I will be watching GREMLINS tonight to see where it all the music fits! I have been waiting for this for 27 years!!
