I'm fine with the presentation on disc 1. What I miss on disc 2, though, is the original album presentation a) because it would align with all the other JW expansions and b) because we could have lost the older CD. It feels kind of wrong without it. Yeah my booklet looks like it was inserted by dogs. It's bad enough that I've contacted LLL. ALL other JW expansions? We didn't repeat the OSTs on Empire of the Sun, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, A.I., Superman or Home Alone 2. Odd about the booklet. You should ask about a replacement. It's the last 28-page one that we'll be doing.

Yeah, is that mainly because they keep getting damaged when trying to fit in a standard jewel case? At least for 3 disc (or more) sets in clamshell packaging, maybe long booklets will still be a possibility... I too really appreciate the lengthy beautiful liner notes booklets LLL has often done. There are just two breaks from chronology in the disc 1 presentation. "Crescendo Summit" is just one cue later, and "The Cover-Up" is withheld so that the truck convoy motif is introduced after the main characters are captured by Lacombe's team. And that's it, apart from the addition of the alternate "Escape," which isn't in the film anyway. I don't see how a couple of very minor moves can create the impression of a wildly non-chronological presentation, but the whole thing was approached with the idea of allowing listeners to personalize the music and experience it in different ways. That's really interesting actually, thanks for sharing. Maybe it was just an overreaction on my part, and also lack of familiarity with the song titles and their context in the film. I definitely know this music less well than other Williams' scores. I guess I'll walk my original critique back a bit. I appreciate your response Mike, and I also appreciate the tremendous amount of work that you put into these releases. You are a fan as well, and making slight tweaks in album arrangement is out-of-the-box thinking that deserves far better than a superficial judgment.

28-page booklet worth the blood, sweat and tears. These notes give us a well-researched, and much needed history of the conceptual inspirations in the score.

I'm sure they'd replace the discs if they're defective, maybe even a new booklet... oh wait, you want them to send you a new jewel case as well? Even if MV Gerhard's house hadn't just burned down this would be petty complaining even by FSM standards. Nothing petty about it. Double-disc jewel cases aren't the easiest thing in the world to replace. And anyways, the expectation is that you will receive something in brand new condition. If LLL failed in that regard, then it's on them to fix it, period.

And since LLL has always had the most amazing customer service, I'm sure they will do it and this is a moot discussion, anyway. Though I'm 95% sure it was the post office who damaged the package, even if the box does not seem to be obviously damaged it could have been dropped in some fashion as to crack the jewel case inside. Why would someone at LLL intentionally put an already-cracked jewel case in a box to ship rather than fixing the jewel case and resealing it first? They stand to lose a lot of money on shipping when they mail out replacements, so it's in their best interest to make sure their product is in perfect condition when they pack it. Yavar

I don't see how a couple of very minor moves can create the impression of a wildly non-chronological presentation, but the whole thing was approached with the idea of allowing listeners to personalize the music and experience it in different ways. As a long-time lover of this score (having seen the original in the theatres at age 12 and a devoted fan of the LP these 40 years), I found disc 1 to be a fantastic eye opener and I imagine it will be my preferred presentation from now on. To hear “Trucking” restored to its intended place early in the narrative was especially nice, since it didn’t appear at all in the expanded release, to my recollection. The shape and flow of the new sequence is thrilling, and seems perfectly natural to me, and at the same time symphonic on its own terms whether or not you run the film in your head along with it. Disc 2 is a glorious embarrassment of riches added to this, especially the revelatory “The Approach” with its insight into JW’s earlier conception of the third act. Plus you get those endlessly fascinating source cues. I may eventually tinker with a custom playlist of my own, as Mr Matessino suggested, but if I do it will not be out of any sense of dissatisfaction at all with the brilliance of disc 1, or some idea that I can do it better. It just sound like it might be fun.

Yavar If anyone would like to SEE JUST WHAT the post office can do to a package of CDs, tell me how to post pictures on here, and I will "enlighten" you... actually, the pictures will probably SICKEN you, and fill you with disbelief.
