Thanks to Randall Larson, just saw on Facebook there is a new
cd of Howarth's score - "contains full length digital remixes as well
as the original mixes from 1988" with notes by Mr. RDL smile

Cool.....

Sounds very optimistic, especially 'cause it was Varese, who released H5 at 1989...
So maybe other "Varese"-titles can be release too now?

Good news on Halloween 5 but damn it man, can't we get a redo on the Halloween II score?

And the horror releases just keep coming! Best Halloween month ever?

The original Varèse disc claimed the score was complete, perhaps it was (for the most part)
So this new edition will be like Halloween II, but with less suite-Ed material...

Or, exactly like how Howarth made his expanded Halloween II CD!

I was thinking the same thing. The previous CD mentioned it contained the complete score and the songs from the movie.
It looks like this edition will include only additional remixes.

Halloween 5 came out in 1989. Anyways I might pick this up since I don't own original 1989 varese album, but I'm not interested in the remix shenanigans like the Halloween II 30th anniversary album had.

While this announcement makes me excited, I'll wait for some reviews before purchasing.
I don't want any Halloween II-like shenanigans. I'll keep my Varese if that is the case.

I know...quote said '88, not I. smile
I remember enduring this flick in theaters...ouch...its aging ok though. Howarth did get some unique & cool sounds into this score.
I too was burned on the H2 fiasco, the only $20 ltd that rests on my floor, while the old Varese is at home on the shelf...

Anyone have comments on the Halloween 4 reissue Howarth did? I haven't gotten to it yet. ...

I don't have the Halloween 4 re-issue yet either, but I've read good reviews, and others here have said there was no tinkering or bizarre things like the Halloween II re-issue. Just a straight forward remaster and expansion. Hopefully, Halloween 5 gets the same treatment.

The Halloween 4 expansion is excellent sound quality wise, I'm not a buff on the sequels and what is missing or not but it seems to be complete judging from the reviews. Here's the previous thread on the release of part 4:

I never owned the Varese edition of Halloween 5 so it's nice to get to buy these complete, remastered and with bonus tracks. I too will await some feedback before getting it.

And if anyone really analyses the track listing's running times, all of them are closely the same.

3. The Child of Evil Must Die (3:21)
14. The Evil Child Must Die (2:15)

5. Stranger Things (2:55)
16. A Stranger In The House (3:37)

These are the only tracks with similar names both versions that have the more significant running times.

Other than this new 2013 mixes section is book-ended with 2 tracks that are named in a way that to me indicate a suites.

2013 MIXES
1. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (4:32)
2. The Shape Rises Again (2:46)
3. The Child of Evil Must Die (3:21)
4. Victim #1 (2:34)
5. Stranger Things (2:55)
6. Tower Farm Murders (4:51)
7. The Raging Must Stop (4:39)
8. Trapped In The Shaft (3:14)
9. Attic Reveal (5:20)
10. Evil Jail Break (2:33)
11. Halloween Final Revenge (3:18)
12. The Revenge (4:33)

ORIGINAL 1989 MIXES
13. The Shape Also Rises (2:52)
14. The Evil Child Must Die (2:15)
15. First Victim (2:24)
16. A Stranger In The House (3:37)
17. Tower Farm (4:23)
18. Stop The Rage (3:39)
19. Trapped (3:22)
20. The Attic (5:29)
21. Jailbreak (2:24)
22. Halloween Finale (3:15)

P.S. I really enjoyed the Halloween 4 expansion but I think I will also wait for reviews on this one. I did like how Howarth took the score even more into the dark side but the names of the tracks don't hint at anything more than potential remixing cues into new ones just for the sake of expanding the album. I enjoy the 1989 album. BTW, he uses slicing ffects very much like Goldsmith did in the Psycho 2 score.

Intriguing to say the least, with most of the "remixes" longer than the original album tracks...
Too bad Howarth didn't have more fun with the titles (a la Giacchino or Chris Young).

IE:
Jailbreak -> Evil Jail Break

Why not...
Prison Escape,
or
Breaking The Jail,
or
Shape Up & Jail Breakout

Not to jump the gun, but what is the deal with Halloween 6? Was the Varese release pretty complete? And I had heard that the music from the Producer's Cut was pretty different. Maybe the Theatrical and Producer's Cut music could make an appearance together on a CD?

I've never done a comparison for Halloween 6, because it seems like it'd be so much work. But I believe (at least, based on what I've read) that the CD has music from both the theatrical and producer's cut, as well as music that appears in neither! With Howarth now re-issuing Halloween 5, perhaps 6 will be his next project. If so, I'll be very interested to see what the final result is.

Halloween is my favorite horror film series, and I've always enjoyed the music for the first six films a lot. I wish there could be a definitive box set, even if it meant including the post-Howarth scores, which vary greatly to me.
