Two fine scores worth checking out, I am pretty sure HOCUS POCUS did have a LP years ago when the film first came out.
No. There was a promo CD. I sold my copy on Amazon a few years ago for some ridiculous price – I think it was $60. But what spooked me was that it sold just a few hours after I listed it. I guess I could have gotten a lot more for it!
"Hocus Pocus" isn't my thing (not knocking anybody who's been dying for it!), but boy, a double disc of "The Miracle" is very exciting!
Wow! Hocus Pocus! Wanted the music since I saw the movie when it came out. Was disappointed there was never a soundtrack release, and the promo disc eluded me. Can't wait to hear the music!
Man, these clues just keep getting tougher and tougher. Hmmm... "hocus pocus".. clearly it has something to do with magic... I'm going to guess that it's a 2 disc set containing the Alan Silvestri score to PRACTICAL MAGIC plus the rejected score by Michael Nyman. Maybe it's the complete HARRY POTTER 3 that everyone seems to want, though? I'm there in either case.
And "the miracle," "the miracle..." um, I'm going to guess that it's Maurice Jarre's score to the 1990 Paul Hogan classic ALMOST AN ANGEL. I hope I'm right... Doug keeps coming up with these impossible brain-twisters!
This Wikipedia description mentions some reasons why The Miracle wasn't successful:
"The 1959 film was panned by critics, and had the misfortune to be released to theatres the same week as MGM's Technicolor widescreen version of Ben-Hur starring Charlton Heston - one of the most successful epic films of all time. Even worse, Warner Bros. had earlier that same year released The Nun's Story, a film starring Audrey Hepburn in which the main character was also a nun having doubts about her vocation, as in The Miracle."
Hm, wonder if "Hocus Pocus" will also have the song that Horner wrote for it included. Hopefully so, as it's a beautiful tune and Debney really makes it his own in the underscore.
Wooohoo Hocus Pocus! In addition to the Horner song, I also wonder if it will include "I Put a Spell on You." Might be too many rights issues involved, but it would be nice.
Can't wait to give this a spin...it's been a looooong wait. Thanks Intrada!!
I'm certainly interested in THE MIRACLE. I'm not the biggest Bernstein fan in the world (I went off him after he discovered the Ondes Martenot), but THE MIRACLE sounds right up my spiritual street.
I am hoping this, as well as the vocal version are on the Intrada release. I'd also like instrumental and vocal versions of I Put A Spell On You to be included. I've always wondered if Debney was inspired by what Horner was doing before he exited the project. While the score definitely has Debney touches, it definitely has Horner touches as well aside from the obvious Come Little Children.
I am hoping this won't be yet another release that gets bogged down by "catches" due to licensing excuses.
A great score that should have been released a long time ago. Thanks to Intrada it finally has happened!
