Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

JIG

Music Composed by
PATRICK DOYLE
(Thor, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes,
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire)

JIG is the story of the 40th Irish Dancing World Championships, held in Glasgow in spring 2010. What documentarian Sue Bourne and her cameras discovered was a fascinating, albeit rather weird and wonderful, world that casts a spell on everyone who comes into contact with it. Irish dancing is a global phenomenon and JIG was filmed in the U.S.A. Europe, Russia, Scotland, England and Ireland. The documentary tells the story of a handful of the thousands of dancers — from tiny ten-year-olds to the best of the best — who travel to Scotland to compete for a coveted world title.

Wigs, fake tan, makeup and incredibly expensive dresses. The thrill of the contest with every form of heartbreak and joy in the climax. Remarkable dancing and remarkable stories that will make the world want to JIG!

Music plays an enormous role in JIG, and calls for a release of Patrick Doyle’s score have accompanied all festival screenings of the film so far. Finally, it is available.

JIG opens in the UK on May 6 and will roll out worldwide.

Varese Sarabande Catalog # 302 067 104 2
Release Date: 07/12/11

LA LIGNE DROITE
THOR
KILLING ME SOFTLY

The proverbial embarrassment of riches!!!

It's certainly shaping up to be the summer of Doyle and Giacchino. That's no bad thing, mind.

Excellent news. big grin

Also, I wonder what, if anything, will fill in VSD #s 7093-7096. . .

Well, so far, we'll get a couple albums in Varese's Vintage categories:

#7094 - Roger Williams "Mr. Piano"
#7095 - Paul McCartney's score to the 1966 British comedy "The Family Way"

(Paul McCartney wrote a film score? It's news to me.)

But as for JIG -

Patrick Doyle + Celtic Music + Documentary score = Sold!

Very eager to hear what Doyle has done here . Seems like a perfect , if unusual choice, for his talents.

Perhaps the pedophile appeal of the cover will help sell copies as well wink,

So it's a quartet?

Maybe it's something like La Ligne Droite, which also credited a limited number of players but there were still orchestral parts recorded in Bulgaria. ¨
Looking very much forward to this one despite it's pretty discouraging front cover.

THAT is one repulsive cover!

But I'm still looking forward to listening to this one.

Right. If you want to blame someone, blame Varese for trying to increase sale with cover obviously targeted to that demographic group smile

I take it that other Patrick Doyle is his son? Doyle has managed to get his kids on albums a few times now.

It says orchestrated....four instruments is usually not considered 'orchestrated'. Mostly likely there's either some tracks with those four, or just a lot of solos (or a combination of both in some way).

I just briefly listened to a few seconds of four or five tracks, don't want to spoil the album, but it sounds great. These small projects really let Doyle be Doyle, just like LA LIGNE DROITE. Of course I'll buy APES as well, but looking forward to this one much more.
