A friend gave me some old Richard Boone shows from early CBS television.
Was pleasantly surprised that they were mainly scored by:
1. Bernard Herrmann 2. Fred Steiner 3. Nathan Scott 4. Van Cleave 5. Richard Shores
and one by Vic Mizzy and another by Lalo Schifrin.
The series also had a cool Theme by Henry Mancini for the Main and End Titles.
I was hoping a surprise score by Johhny Williams or Jerry Goldsmith would have turned up, but it didn't.
Thought I'd see Goldsmith's name more since a lot of those guys were regular TWILIGHT ZONE scorers as was Jerry and he had a worked on HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL a couple times with Boone and also scored the Playhouse 90 Boone episode "TOMORROW", which was on the excellent "Early Years" CD. Boone was in additional Playhouse 90's and CLIMAX which Goldsmith was known to score many. The maestro would later score the feature RIO CONCHOS in which Boone appeared.
Anyone remember THE RICHARD BOONE Show? Great Anthology Drama series which featured a great regular cast performing in different dramas each week. A young Robert Blake was one of the regular cast members.
I just faintly recall that series. I don't think I watched it more than a couple times. If some retro channel began showing it again, I'd be interested in watching it.
It was on NBC, not CBS, and I remember it very well. It was a wonderful TV experiment in repertory theater, and I was very sad as a high schooler when it was canceled after its first season.
On my Wollensak reel-to-reel machine I recorded "The Wall-to-Wall War," a striking melodrama scored by Herrmann, with Warren Stevens as an office worker, a war veteran gone off the deep end, who imprisons his fellow wage slaves one Friday night and forces them to participate in a combat re-creation.

I really don't remember "the Richard Boone Show" but his early hit show I do remember was as the star of "The Medic" on TV in the mid-1950s, an early "doctor" series. The theme "Blue Star" became a hit, a Victor Young score.

Your welcome! The video was fresh in my mind because a few weeks ago I was trying to figure out if a cdr of miscellaneous Richard Boone music was from a TV Western LP or not, mostly by Herrmann. There's only about 2 minutes of music from "Wall to Wall War." Richard Boone's first television series was titled "Medic" NOT "The Medic" though it was also noteworthy in that every episode during its two seasons had an original score by Victor Young (rare when most network and syndicated dramatic series at that time had library music).

Are you sure Victor Young scored EVERY episode? I watched some last Spring and I thought Young scored some of the shows but others composers got credit too.
It was quite the medical show for the mid 50s, the main theme is so typical Victor Young, fits the show perfectly.
One of the best-scored episodes of The Richard Boone Show was entitled: "A Tough Man To Kill".....a few minutes of it turned up in an old LP of Herrmann-television music back in the 70's. It seems to have been MIA ever since. A terrific episode too!
The Cine Sound LP (CSR-301) from the 1970s included excerpts from the Bernard Herrmann scores for A STATEMENT OF FACT, WALL-TO-WALL WAR, and A TOUGH MAN MAN TO KILL, plus the complete score for DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR. Henry Mancini's theme for THE RICHARD BOONE SHOW was also on that LP.

IIRC the theme, "Blue Star" was covered many, many times and (at least in the Philly area) instrumentals of it were used as interlude fillers for "Late Show" and/or afternoon type TV broadcast films for several years afterwards.

I always felt the MEDIC theme (Blue Star) was very similar to the love theme from Strategic Air Command. Compare the two ......
