It's great, bold stuff from a composer known for it. His use of the human voice in it strikes me as sounding very unlike him. It certainly works beautifully in the movie (especially in the scene where Val Kilmer sets the brush on fire to ward off the remaining Lion), but something about it strikes me as very removed from the composer's normal idiom. Still, high quality stuff from a composer who did nothing but. When you say "human voice" do you mean the African choirs chanting/singing? I like The Ghost and The Darkness and play it every few months. When you say "human voice" do you mean the African choirs chanting/singing? Yeah. The choral aspect of the score doesn't sound like any other choral work written by Goldsmith. Goldsmith had no idea what the chorus was actually saying, which prompts Carrie to remark that, for all Jerry knew, they could have been saying 'F*ck you' in Swahili. I sold off my album awaiting such a release, liked the movie a lot as well. For me the motif he uses for when the lions attacks makes for great suspense music! Also the score has similar qualities to FC given that he scored it around the same time. P.S. As far as Goldsmith expansions go, The Ghost and the Darkness is my most wanted release as well. This is one of the first Goldsmith scores I bought and to this day it's still one of my favorites. The original release misses quite some stuff. Also remember that music in the film is even more aggressive.
