Now is the time for heroes… Prometheus Records presents the original soundtrack recording to VICTORY, also known as ESCAPE TO VICTORY, the 1981 action film directed by the great John Huston, starring Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone, Max Von Sydow and Pelé, featuring music composed and conducted by Bill Conti (ROCKY), performed by the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra.

During World War II, a group of Nazi officers come up with a propaganda event in which an all-star Nazi team will play a team composed of Allied prisoners of war in a football (soccer) game. The prisoners agree, planning to use the game as a means of escape from their prison camp, with some help from the French resistance. Long sought after by fans of Bill Conti, Prometheus Records is pleased to present VICTORY on compact disc for the first time, part of the CD Club series of limited edition releases.

VICTORY is limited to 3000 units.

PROMETHEUS CLUB titles have been $24.95 since the first of this year..

This is due to the fact they are European imports that have to be paid in EUROS...

Then the club started the Euro was about 90 cents, today it's about $1.18 and has gone as high as a $1.30

Another Conti score! Great!
Limited? Darn, this means I ought to order it now.
Let me fetch my to-buy list, and I'll be ordering in a few minutes... wink
Update: Done! Goldsmith's "Ransom" was naturally the first to go on the cart, followed by Conti's score.

Do you have an estimated shipping date?
Wait: "pre-order price before Dec 13"; shipping starts Dec 14 or thereabouts, then, right?

The thing I don't get is the following: Promotheus is an European company, right! Then why do they not sell to their customers directly like FSM, Intrada and Varese do.
It's really depressing to pay the shipment from Europe to the US and then back to Europe.

Another great Conti score finally escapes smile

Amused by the typos, though ... "Match's Getaway" and "Match's Revenge" ... the Stallone character in the film is called Hatch not Match.

I must say the artwork is a bit-- odd.
It looks like big guys in pajamas to dress up in superhero tights, pretending to flying like Superman, arms raised and fists clenched. They seem to be glued together, and to be stretching a bit like Mr Fantastic, dressed in Flash Gordon's red suit.

In short, they look silly. razz

Here's a larger picture, with also shows the German soldiers and a football-playing eagle.

Speaking of Mr Fantastic, on this one, they are wearing his blue suit:

Ooooooh, now I get it: Stallone & Caine's busts & arms form a "V", with Pelé in the pit of the "V".

A different poster:

Yeah, very awkward cover art which looks ambiguously gay (or all three of them are stuffed into one pair of soccer shorts) and seems to cover up the image of soccer star PELE making him seem shunted/ignored.

It seems to be a coincidence that LOCK-UP also got teased for having "gay" artwork....
and that Sly Stallone is in both films.

Go figure...

I'm thrilled to see this release - finally. This is trly one of Conti's best efforts. But does anyone know if the release is stereo or mono?

Thanks.

What source materials was the CD mastered from?

Is it stereo? Great sound? Or...?

The album is in stereo. Dan Wallin did an excellent job recording it, considering the rather unique situation they had (you'll read about it in the liner notes).

FYI, Don't ask me why, but those are the titles that appear on the cue sheets we were given to work from by WB...
