Last I heard, he was feeling better and sent back to LA (last week). So he should be back by now. Nobody knows, and probably will never know what ailment struck him other than it being 'routine'.

Apart from the indelicate nature of the question, you do realize that asking it will cause most FSMers to nervously clutch their collections?

I’m sure we all wish him well. He has brought so much joy to so many for so long.....no doubt in my mind that he was put on this earth to show us the beauty and therapeutic power of music. A true blessing in my life and wish him all the best.

I think the FSM collective went into a state of shock when they read, "John Williams" and "Hospital".
I know I did! Horner still hurts. :-( Glad to hear he's recovering.

Is the entire three-part question indelicate?

I guess that's one difference between Europeans and Americans... This kind of question over here would be taken as a simple inquiry as to one's well-being, without any intent of intruding into one's personal business. In the States, it seems to be taken as nosiness at best, and an intrusion of privacy at worst.

I remember back in 2004 there was quite an argument when the same thing occurred over Jerry Goldsmith's health after his having to cancel his appearance at the Barbican Concert in February.

You're definitely on to something, Christian. There's a definite US/European culture crash there. A similar thing, only vice versa, is how Americans often use your name all the time in a conversation. In most of Europe, this would be considered rather rude.

I've noticed (whether in conversations or especially in written form) that Americans more often use my name at the start of sentences, or elsewhere. Over here, it's more common to just say 'you' after you've introduced yourself once at the beginning of a meeting. Less common to pepper the conversations with own names.

A friend of mine has a handyman who, for some strange reason, keeps saying his name multiple times, even in one sentence! "Well, Rick, it would seem to me, Rick, that the problem you're having, Rick, is that the valve stem needs replacing on your hot water tap, Rick"... NO EXAGGERATION! Weirdest habit!

Jason... I know that idiot Dale Carnegie highly recommended using a person's name frequently, because - according to HIM - people LOVE to hear their name! I was determined to make this woman who I was madly in love with, fall in love with me, and one night when we were at dinner, I was using her name repeatedly. It creeped her out, and that was it. frown

I can understand being a bit put off by someone repeatedly using your name during the course of a conversation, but someone using my name once, say on this message board at the beginning of a post, doesn't bother me in the least.

My best to Maestro Williams, of course....
