I was listening to Morricone's White Dog today and reading about the proposed album which ultimately got canned due to the controversy surrounding the film. It seems there have been quite a number of cases like this where an album was planned but unfortunately due to the films poor performance or some other reason was cancelled.
I remember seeing 'Soundtrack Available On MGM Records' on the end credits of Masquerade. We all know about the canned Body Heat and Superman IV albums. I'm sure there are a lot more.
There was going to be a soundtrack album for Ishtar, but that never happened. The posters for Heartbeeps and The Right Stuff billed albums, but they didn't come along for decades.
John Barry fan Ian McDonald tells us he recalls seeing an album of John Barry's "MISTER MOSES" listed with cover and number back in 1965, but never appeared.
If makes me wonder if, apart from the film score masters for which we have witness testimony that they were dumped, there was a separate album master created someplace.
MCA Records advertised in the end title credits of RAGGEDY MAN that there was going to be a Jerry Goldsmith Soundtrack. I seem to remember seeing some One sheet posters advertising a soundtrack as well.
God knows that didn't happen until Varese put it out 10 years later.

I remember that one also. I'm pretty sure the Varese release reflected what was indeed originally planned.
BEN-HUR -- it took nearly forty years for the OST to finally appear on Rhino (and later FSM). Metro had early success with soundtrack albums from MADAME BOVARY, IVANHOE, and PLYMOUTH ADVENTURE, but their record division backed off from soundtracks after that, except for musicals.
