(We’ve had this topic before in various guises, but let’s go again)smile

What’s your favourite and why?

There are a lot to choose from of course, I won’t list them so which collaboration do you think is the greatest?

My personal favourite is Morricone/Tornatore (even moreso than with Leone). I love Tornatore’s films, and it’s hard to imagine them without Ennio’s music. I believe he has composed some of his best music here, and it’s clear Tornatore takes a lot of interest in the music.

Any comments?

Poledouris/Wincer. Or Poledouris/Verhoeven. Or Poledouris/Milius.

Oh, I don't know.

Hisaishi/Miyazaki is up there.

My favourite is the most obvious one...
John Williams and Steven Spielberg.
Why? I would say because it's been the most consistently brilliant and varied collection of scores I have ever heard. Some real masterpieces among them.

But I also really dig the Dante/Goldsmith and DePalma/Donaggio team-ups too!
I love the whimsical, yet broad quality Goldsmith brought to the Dante films and Donaggio's stunning music added such layers of class to DePalma's thrilling Hitchcockian re-takes.

Even though Alien and Legend were frustrating experiences for the composer, I'd say Goldsmith/Scott.

Howard/Shyamalan

Williams/Spielberg.

Herrmann/Harryhausen (not a director, but a filmmaker)

Well, there are a couple of obvious ones so far, my favourite being Herrmann/Harryhausen. But I can't believe no one even this early in the game hasn't mentioned

Morricone/Sergio Leone,
Elfman/Burton
and especially....
Herrmann/Hitchcock.

I'd say these plus Harryhausen/Herrmann are my personal favourites with Williams/Spielberg next. It is a classic example.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jerry Goldsmith/Franklin Schaffner.
Some great films. Patton, Planet of the Apes, and Islands in the Stream just to mention a few.
Then there was Goldsmith/Gries. The movies weren't great, but the scores were.

I simply can't believe that from the above 12 replys only 2 people chose Williams - Spielberg.

The Delerue-Truffaut collaboration tends to get more attention, but I also like Delerue's work for De Broca.

I'll start with De Palma/Herrmann, because OBSESSION is my Holy Grail and all-time favorite score, and SISTERS was excellent too.

My next choice would be Hitchcock/Herrmann.

Williams/Spielberg is the best collaboration that I've ever heard.

And as for second one it will goes to Jarre/Lean.
