Trying to collect all the James Bond soundtracks and they all run from about $4.00 used to $12.00 brand new. So why is Thunderball running about $32.00 used? Is it OOP already?

Interesting development. I'm seeing more or less the same thing at Amazon UK.

Hi there,
I have a sealed copy of the expanded Thunderball that I'll sell to you for $10 + shipping. I also have a sealed Goldfinger for sale too. Contact me at caavis@gmail.com if you're interested.

That is weird, because the Thunderball LP was the only Bond soundtrack (to my knowledge) that ever went out of print. I easily acquired new copies of all the Bond soundtracks in record stores in the late 70s-early 80s but Thunderball was the only one I couldn't find, because it was OOP. Hugely frustrating because it was my favorite Bond score!

It finally was repressed (w/ new artwork) in the mid or late 80s, but was out of circulation for a long time. I wonder if it is something to do with the film itself and the whole Kevin McClory rights issue.

'Already'? It's been out for 11 years, so if it is OOP, it's not exactly a case of 'already'.

That said, it is strange that it's just this one that's suddenly gone up in price. They've been cheap for ages.

Why so expensive? Surely, that's obvious!

It's the best of the 25 JB007 scores and everyone wants a copy! smile

I'm serious about it being the best ... IMHO

Sometimes, when things start going out of print, it's because a new edition is coming.

And sometimes, it's not.

Wouldn't it be nice if a 2CD Thunderball, with album program plus other songs (Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), etc, on disc 1, and complete score in film order on disc 2.

Really? I thought it was easily available on the Sunset label. I picked it up some time in the late 70's from an HMV store.

I think it was also the most disappointing Bond soundtrack I bought, missing all the juicy action music JB wrote for the latter half of the film and thankfully all rectified decades later with the expanded releases.

No, when I started buying these vinyl releases, about 1972-73, I could get only Goldfinger, OHMSS and the new Diamonds Are Forever; shortly afterwards, From Russia With Love was re-released on Sunset.

But I had to buy US imports ... 2nd hand copies, too ... of Thunderball and You Only Live Twice - expensive in relation to my weekly pocket-money. Side 1 of the latter score was almost unplayable! At least they gave me recordings of Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and You Only Live Twice - End Title (vocal) which were not included on the UK Sunset re-releases of the mid-70s.

I think it was also the most disappointing Bond soundtrack I bought, missing all the juicy action music JB wrote for the latter half of the film and thankfully all rectified decades later with the expanded releases.

Whilst I longed for such additional music - happily provided initially in the wonderful suite on 30th Anniversary double CD release - I think that the original release of Diamonds Are Forever was more disappointing for similar reasons. It probably benefited most from expansion.

Very true Mitch. Diamonds Are Forever was another large disappointment to me. at least 007 and Counting was on the LP, on that first listen the track title meant nothing to me and I was actually ready to be disappointed that the "laser Beam" music wouldn't be included.

I had the same problem in the 1970s when I was collecting the Bond scores. Thunderball was nearly impossible to find but fortunately at a record store in downtown Washington, DC, I came across a cutout (the corner was trimmed) Thunderball for $2.50. I still have it to this day even though I have the expanded CD. I personally think the score was sold out and was one of those UA records that just did not get a second or third run.

On a side note, all those years looking for Bond scores and other records was part of the fun. I miss searching through piles of LPs in those old record stores.

"Thunderball" sounded like crap to me on LP and the original CD. The 30TH Anniversary collection and later extended version thankfully rectified this.

I certainly hope that this means that all titles will go OOP and we're finally getting the "real deal" (especially for the post-1973 titles). Hopefully the label who's doing it will get the mastering job right and will retain the dynamics of the original recordings. It would really be frustrating to finally get all the unreleased recordings in brickwalled sound - unfortunately not an exception these days (even in the soundtrack world)...

I picked mine up at Barnes and Noble for
about $12. Mind you, I did have to special
order it, along with the other Bond scores.
