Why not just declare him the composer for all future Marvel movies (as well as have him replace Bear McCreary on Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and be done with it? smile

I figured with Whedon back as director, Silvestri would be back as well. Would be nice if these Marvel movies could have had a musical identity. I'm sure Tyler will knock it out of the park (as with the first, I expect the score to be the best thing about the film), but it would have been cool to see Silvestri develop his material.

Great news for tyler fans like me.

Silvestri's theme has grown on me after multiple viewings of the original film but it still hasn't lived up to expectations. After his superb scores for IM3 and TTDW I think Tyler will knock this one of of the park.

Yay! I makes me wonder if they'll also tap him to replace the current composers on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. It will be great that Tyler will be able to weave his themes together in one film. Definitely looking forward to this film even more now. smile

Just curious: do you have inside information? I don't see any articles about it right now, but I know that you are a fellow fan of Tyler's work and you might have some connections to certain information.

It was disappointing that Silvestri didn't quote any of the other film scores (except Captain America, which is his score).

But what's more disappointing is that he's now replaced by Tyler. I liked the Avengers main theme. And he is certainly not going to pick it up.

Probably not, but, y'know, he might. It's possible, however unlikely, that he might sit down with Whedon (or Feige or Jordan or whomever) about the approach to take and they decide to use that theme.

I think Silvestri's Avengers was one of the best scores to one of the worst movies of 2012 IMO, really liked the theme and the bunk of the score and even with a 76 minute intrada album I was disappointed it still managed to leave off some amazing action cues! A similar thing happened to Silvestri's G.I. Joe. If these ever get expanded I'll be the first to get them! Captain America aside from the theme I did not find that spectacular.

As for Brian Tyler, I'll still be interested to see what he'll do for Avengers; I am burnt out on the whole marvel superhero movies and aside from Silvestri, most of the music hasn't grabbed me as much.

Seeing as how Tyler scored IRON MAN 3 and THOR 2, this does provide more musical identity than has been present before in the Marvel films. It's a good thing he's been hired instead of Silvestri for this one, I'd think, for that "musical identity".

Well, technically speaking, Tyler has quoted Cap's theme in Thor 2 and that was a cool little moment.

So you never know.

Brian Tyler certainly holds no reservations about using another composer's established themes in a sequel score, as anyone who has heard AVP:R can attest. Tyler wove throughout themes and references from both of Silvestri's scores, as well as Goldsmith's, Horner's, Goldenthal's, and Frizzell's. A remarkably fun listen for sharp-eared fans of the two franchises, IMHO.

The film is so maligned... However... Brian Tyler really knocked it out of the park. Like you said... the quotes from the previous installments of both franchise scores is pretty terrific and a lot of fun.

Though I will miss Alan Silvestri scoring it... I certainly welcome Brian Tyler as the composer of the sequel. smile

Interesting, because I loved the movie and was not very impressed by the score beyond the full quote of the main theme that happens only once in the film. Beyond that I found most of Silvestri's music completely un-memorable and poorly orchestrated. I'm not expecting Brian Tyler to write anything particularly memorable for Avengers 2 either just because it is clear that the producers still want a certain sound from the scores that is not what I like to hear. I'm sure it will work well in the film just like Iron Man 3 but beyond that not so much.

May I ask for the source? I've only seen Tyler linked to Avengers: Age of Ultron on Wikipedia, and that has since been deleted.

wow... Silvestri has really been catching a string of bad luck! if this is true, it would be the third time he has been replaced as the composer for a blockbuster series

(...to be fair though, Silvestri's recent scores for action films have been sounding exactly the same. Other than a few small differences G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, The A-Team & The Avengers are practically the same score)
