New Message Board & Sample Copy Offer
by Lukas Kendall
Film Score Monthly changes its message
board -- chaos ensues!
Here's the deal. Our old message board was obsolete. Personally, I rarely
used it because it took way too long for it to load. Every five days I
personally deleted the messages, which were then lost for all time.
I know it's a bit of a change, but please give our new board a shot.
Yes, you have to register, but it's easy, and once you're set, you have
more freedom than you would have imagined possible with the old board --
particularly to look at messages based on different time periods. And yes,
it's different in that the threads do not have threads-within-threads,
but it actually makes more sense this way. And forgive me if I don't miss
the non sequitur, off-topic flamewars.
All of this isn't to say we don't want your suggestions, because we
do! Please send your feedback for the best ways for us to configure the
board, and what you do and don't like (address below). Thanks, and as always,
thanks for being a part of our online soundtrack community.
Sample Issue Offer - Today Only! Holy Cow!
We just finished a poll which was simply inquiring as to how many of
our online readers also get the print magazine of FSM. Around 600 people
responded, of which 400 also read the print version... which also means
that 200 of you, who took the time to respond to the poll, don't!
This amazes me because our print magazine has tons and tons of great
articles and reviews which cannot be found on the site. Unfortunately,
you won't find it on the magazine rack at your local drugstore, although
we are working on expanding our ciruclation.
So here's the deal - today only, email
me (Lukas) your name and address and I will send you a free copy of
the December 1998 issue, featuring a Prince of Egypt cover story
and dozens of CD reviews for the recently concluded holiday season. I ask
only two things:
1) That you honestly have never seen the magazine before.
2) That you may in fact subscribe if you really dig it, and don't go
through life looking for free things, no matter what they are.
To all of our existing print readers, thanks for understanding that
I'm not trying to undercut the fact that you've sent us your money. We
SO appreciate your readership. I'm just trying to bring more people into
the fold!
So, newbies, here's your chance, today only: send your name and address
(snail mail), and I'll send you a free sample.
Late news! Varese Sarabande flash! I was about
to upload this column and got the following email from Robert Townson:
STU PHILLIPS IN SCOTLAND!
In celebration of yet another twentieth anniversary, composer Stu
Phillips joined producer Robert Townson on a recent trip to Scotland and
conducted a recording of his greatest and most famous score, Battlestar
Galactica. The full forces of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra were
put through quite a workout with Phillips' heroic and action-packed score.
Battlestar Galactica is one of the landmark science fiction scores of the
late 1970s. There was Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, The Black Hole and
Battlestar Galactica. Now available on CD and for the first time ever in
20-bit digital sound with Stu Phillips himself back on the podium 20 years
later, Battlestar Galactica has never sounded better! Coming this spring!
Be here tomorrow for Film Score Friday!
