Superman Hits a Slight Head-Wind
Daily Planet Extra
From Michael Matessino, Album Co-Producer
It is with great regret that I must inform everyone that the release
of Rhino's 2-CD set of the SUPERMAN score is being postponed until sometime
next year. Rhino has determined that it is in the best interest of the
release to allow more time to complete the remaining work on the project
in order to present and support it in the best way possible.
In a conversation with Rhino's Julie D'Angelo, I expressed my concern
about what the reaction to this news might be, especially in light of other
soundtrack releases which have had similar delays. Julie related that she
and her colleagues at Rhino are sensitive to these concerns and do not
take the matter lightly: "Like any music fan, I too have been waiting
several years for a variety of releases. I understand this news will be
disheartening, but I hope people will remember that a variety of factors
come to bear on such a decision, and that in this instance, it is truly
about maintaining the quality and integrity that every element of the project
deserves."
Unfortunately, a release date appeared on the Rhino web site, but Julie
informed me that the dates listed here are always tentative, and in fact
at least half a dozen titles scheduled for release on the web site have,
in fact, been postponed as a result of this same development. While one
could wish for better communication with the folks who compile the web
site, I know that the decision to postpone was examined from every possible
angle, and unfortunately there is no viable alternative. Please take this
into consideration when reacting to the news, and remember that continued
support of record companies which produce these projects is strongly needed
in order to keep more of them coming. Rest assured that the complete score
to SUPERMAN will be worth the wait, and that Rhino's only goal is that
it be as distinctive and successful as possible.
