Stanley Kubrick Has Died
by Lukas Kendall
Legendary director Stanley Kubrick has passed away at his home outside
London, reportedly Saturday night in his sleep. He was 71 and had just
finished Eyes Wide Shut.
It's always a shock to hear news like this -- for more information,
turn to any of the news and/or entertainment websites. I heard yesterday
afternoon as I was checking into the Santa Barbara International Film Festival
(there was a music in film panle). So now I'm always remember that I was
at this film festival for a day and some guy walked in and told everybody
at the registration desk that Stanley Kubrick had died.
Kubrick's films are legendary, as is his use of music -- from traditional
scores like The Killing (Fried) and Spartacus (North) to
his sublime use of classical tracks (2001) and electronic variations
thereupon (Clockwork Orange). Hopefully Eyes Wide Shut will
be a fitting and triumphant conclusion to this masterful career and life.
